About Therapy

The success of therapy is strongly dependent on the match between client and clinician; it is vital that you feel connected to and understood by your therapist. I strive to be genuine and collaborative in therapy, I wish my clients to feel respected and empowered to make positive changes in their lives. I encourage you to make that initial phone call and get a sense how well matched we might be and see if this is the right time for you to make important or needed changes within yourself and your life.

Therapy requires the right balance of information and intuition. My work utilizes evidence-based practices, adapting and flexing to meet personal needs and preferences of each client. Almost all of my work features elements of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) which focuses on developing greater awareness of important personal values and insight into how to act more functionally and in support of who you truly want to be (even when it is very challenging to do so). Helping clients become more mindful (ability to fully with the present moment) and skillful in their interpersonal relationships is also a significant aspect of what therapy can do. Learning through metaphors, personal exploration, reading, and humor are all important to me as a clinician and as a person; when appropriate, we laugh and enjoy everything that life has to offer.

Finally, therapy will be a space where you feel safe, respected, accepted and celebrated in any and all of the identities that you hold. This is very, very important to me. I consider it an honor to be a part of so many special people's lives, at what is often some of the most important and sometimes painful growth they will experience.

A FIRST CALL, WHAT TO EXPECT:

Understandably, many people are nervous about starting therapy. When you make the initial phone call, we will talk and get a general overview of what your difficulties are. If there are no concerns about being able to meet your needs, we can set up an initial appointment. If you're still not sure or feeling ready to move forward, there's no pressure to schedule an appointment. Additionally, I am always happy to help to provide referrals to other practitioners if that's what would be most useful. Even if we don't end up working together, I truly hope you find the help and support you need.
